Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) on the Internet: Online representation of the disorder and frequency of search terms

Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) are seizures that look like epileptic seizures but are not caused by sudden abnormal electrical discharges in the brain. The nature of the symptoms associated with PNES (seemingly neurological yet in fact psychogenic) requires the engagement of a multidisciplinary health team in order to achieve the proper diagnosis and treatment of the patient. Early correct diagnosis is often elusive taking an average of 7.2 years to be reached [1]. Iatrogenic complications may occur when the condition is misdiagnosed and treated with incorrect pharmacological agents over the years.
