Epilepsy is a brain disorder that affects people of all ages. It is characterized by an “enduring predisposition to generate epileptic seizures that are the transient occurrence of signs and/or symptoms due to abnormal excessive or synchronous neuronal activity in the brain” [1, 2]. Around 50 million people worldwide have epilepsy, making it one of the most common neurological diseases. Nearly 80% of people with epilepsy live in low and middle-income countries [3].
