Cortical myoclonus associated with coeliac disease showing a characteristic EEG pattern: A case report.

Coeliac disease (CD) is an immune-mediated enteropathy that may cause a broad spectrum of intestinal and extra-intestinal manifestations. Among them, neurological symptoms are present in up to one-third of the CD cases, including ataxia, epilepsy and myoclonus. The presence of any neurological symptom in a patient with CD must warn us of a possible complication of this immune-mediated disorder. However, neurological complications may precede the diagnosis of CD, and other possible causes need to be ruled out before attributing the condition to CD, as it can be an epiphenomenon not directly caused by CD.
